Disagreeing with Gay Marriage & Gay Bashing Are Not One and the Same

So I’m sitting here in front of my computer, just as I’ve been doing all week, trying to recover from what feels like the most horrible and dramatic allergic reaction of my life. During this down time I’ve been writing, researching, and of course, scanning my Twitter feed. The regular reoccurring subject of whatever craziness went down on Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta this passed Monday has now shifted. The burning topic at hand this week is the Chick-fil-A Controversy. Apparently some time this week Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy stated that he and his company support the traditional family unit. Since then politicians and protestors alike have since then waged war on the franchise, even threatening to boycott. Facebook, Twitter, and the blogosphere has been overflowing with the opinions of those who are for and against boycotting Chick-fil-A.

So here’s my beef, since when did not supporting something or someone equate with bashing it? As Christians we do have our beliefs that are guided by what is written in the Bible. I don’t see anyone protesting against Christians that don’t support sex before marriage. I don’t see anyone protesting against Christians who don’t drink. We don’t believe in Buddha or Allah, does that make us bashers of those religions as well?  Dan Cathy is not some gun toting lunatic who is out protesting at gay weddings or funerals. He isn’t a bigot who doesn’t hire homosexuals or has a painted sign in every Chick-fil-A window that reads “Straights Only”. Whatever happened to the first amendment? Does freedom of speech not apply to Christians? If people choose to boycott Chick-fil-A, fine. It is their constitutional right. But, don’t make Dan Cathy out to be the next Adolf Hitler simply because he is standing by his beliefs.

Update: Chick-fil-A Vice President of Public Relations, Don Perry has died of a heart attack. Some believe his job contributed to his stress.

      Who did Jesus persecute?

I like to believe that I lead a Christ inspired life. But for the life of me, I cannot find that Jesus persecuted anybody.
